What matters most to you?

Before you buy, we’d ask you

Are you strength training?

Creatine works best with it. On its own, it adds little muscle.

Kidney disease, pregnant or breastfeeding?

Talk to your doctor first. The research doesn’t cover you yet.

Thinking gummies?

Skip them for now. Lab tests keep finding less creatine than the label says.

Why we’re strict about creatine

Creatine breaks down in moist formats like gummies. Powder stays stable for years. That’s why the failures cluster in gummies.

How to buy it right in the US

  1. Pick plain creatine monohydrate powder.
  2. Look for the NSF Certified for Sport mark, then check the lot number at nsfsport.com.
  3. Buy from the brand or its official store, not a random marketplace seller.
  4. Store it dry. Moisture breaks creatine down.

Questions

Is creatine a steroid?

No. Creatine is a compound your body makes from amino acids and gets from meat and fish. It isn’t a hormone.

Does creatine cause hair loss?

The only trial that measured hair (12 weeks, 2025) found no change in DHT or hair. The worry traces to a 2009 study that never measured hair.

Is creatine bad for your kidneys?

Studies in healthy people show no harm to kidney function. Creatine raises creatinine on blood tests, which can look like a kidney problem, so tell your doctor you take it. People with kidney disease should ask their doctor first.

Should women take creatine?

Women store less creatine than men. Trials in older women show muscle benefits when it’s paired with strength training. The largest 2-year trial found no effect on bone density. If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, ask your doctor first.

Creatine gummies or powder?

Powder. It stays stable for years, while creatine breaks down in moist formats. Independent tests in 2024 and 2025 found gummies with less creatine than labeled, and some with none.

Is creatine HCl better than monohydrate?

No evidence says so. Monohydrate is the form used in almost all the research.

How much did the studies use?

Most trials used 3 to 5 grams a day, some after a short higher-dose “loading” week. This describes the research, not advice for you.
